On a brisk day in Halifax, the immediac team eagerly arrived at NSCC's IT job fair, the first in-person event since 2020, to connect with students and discuss potential co-op opportunities. The job fair is an exciting event that allows NSCC students to interact with potential employers, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the industry.
As a long-time partner of NSCC, immediac has had the pleasure of hiring many talented co-op students who have become valuable full-time employees. Currently, 33% of all employees at immediac are NSCC graduates, including 66% of the management team. As co-ops, NSCC students have brought fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and creativity to the team, helping to drive innovation and success.
Isaac Lohnes, immediac's Operations Manager and NSCC alumni, gave a presentation to the students about the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, particularly in the fast-paced and demanding tech industry. This year marked the 5th IT job fair that Lohnes has attended. He discussed the physical and mental challenges that can arise from working in this field and offered tips and strategies for staying healthy, productive, and balanced. His talk was well-received by the students, who appreciated the valuable advice and insights into the industry.
“It was great to be back in person, we loved making deeper connections with the students.” Lohnes said, “We loved the students this year. There were so many interesting stories and great conversations.”
Throughout the day, the immediac team met with hundreds of students interested in completing a co-op placement with the company. We were impressed by their enthusiasm, drive, and dedication to their education and career goals. Discussing potential opportunities with them and offering guidance and advice was a pleasure.
We left the job fair feeling energized and inspired by the talented students we met. As a company, we are committed to supporting the growth and development of the next generation of tech professionals and look forward to continuing our partnership with NSCC. We believe that by working together, we can help students gain the skills and experience they need to thrive in the tech industry and achieve their career aspirations.
We’d like to thank and congratulate Marc Scarfone and the NSCC IT job fair committee for another successful job fair, and we’re looking forward to next year’s event!
